I have started to give Italian lesson to foreign people in Rome (Bengali,Indian, Spanish,French and Arabic people).
My teaching style is based on students needs however, I think that any way the best method to teach a language for me is the inductive and spiral method.
I’ve learned this method by years of experience and then I’ve improved my skills making an Italian teaching training (CLTA) at “Italian cultural institute” in London which was a very interesting course about modern teaching methods and activities to do both in classes or one to one lessons.
Basically, the spiral method is a way to let people assimilate concepts and not just memorize rules. I do this, using real materials both writing, audio and video and after some first comprehension exercises , gradually, I proceed with grammatical analysis , assimilation of rules , discovery of vocabulary and final verification initially through supervised practice both oral and written and later with free practices.
Using the same materials in different lessons, is a good way for student to assimilate situation of every day life and, consequently, how to use the language.
In addition to this the use of some learning plays is important to keep high the interesting for the language, together with the use of some lectures, audio or video about Italian culture and what people love about Italy( food, cities, tradition) in order to let them know all Italy and not only the language.
Like this, even the assimilation of important grammar rules, happened unconsciously and in a totally inductive way.

My passion for different culture and the big feeling in my bones that I am Italian, that I love my country and my culture. I am very interested in languages both learning and teaching;of course, before I have  started to learn Spanish, French, English, Arabic and a little bit of Hindi and at one point I’ve realised that I wanted to let know Italian culture to others. It is simple the passion that makes me a great teacher!

I am a qualified Italian native teacher.
I have been teaching Italian for over 12 years .I taught at University for 3 years and at the Foreign Office for 2 years. I am still currently teaching at City Lit, and at the Bishopsgate Institute. At City Lit and at the Bishopsgate Institute, I am teaching Italian to adults at all levels.I am doing ILT training courses and incorporating new technologies in my classes. I have mixed ability classes and have to differentiate between students by giving them different tasks.
At the foreign office, I taught intensive Italian courses to diplomats. I prepared and taught intensive tailored courses for diplomats assigned to Italy for work.
At Goldsmith University, I taught Italian from beginners to advanced business level. Group sizes varied from 6 to 15.I prepared lesson plans and schemes of work. I regularly met with colleagues to evaluate our progress. We observed and assessed each other while teaching to get regular feedback. I, therefore, gained a lot from working within a team.
I have 13 years of experience in private tuition. I have been teaching mainly to adults, but I also taught for 3 years children and teenagers.
I mainly use the communicative method and the choice of activities is essential and has to suit the topic chosen for that day. I believe that it is important to have a clear start to the lesson – students need to know what they are being taught (i.e.the objectives of the lesson need to be clarified upfront).
I always alternate the 4 skills (listening, writing, reading and speaking). Plus, I do lots of role plays, games and group discussions.
In 1985–1989 University Degree in English and Italian Language and Literature
In Sept. 2004 – June 2005 University Certificate in Language Teaching to Adults (CLTA). The course included extensive teaching practice each week throughout the whole year at Goldsmith University.
For beginners and elementary students I use “ Nuovo Espresso 1” “ Nuovo Espresso2” ““Rapidamente”, also, support books like: “ Grammatichiamo, Contatti” . These are just some of the books I use. Plus, my own material, authentic material, videos, flash cards, cue cards,Power Point, Electronic Smart Board etc…For intermediate students, I have my own material, plus books like “Linea Diretta” and “ Espresso 3”. For advanced students I use newspapers and magazines articles, “Magari” Authentic material and my own material.

I do think that is important that a teacher loves what he/she does and that she /he has a positive attitude towards the subject taught and towards the students and their work. I love teaching my language, and I do so by using modern teaching techniques in a friendly, fun and efficient way. I tailor my lessons to meet the needs of my students, whether my students are learning Italian for leisure, business, or academic reasons. I am flexible, patient and enthusiastic, and I always bring variety to my lessons by using different teaching methods in order to keep my students active and motivated. I am highly organised, interested in my students and I always create a positive atmosphere, where students feel valued and encouraged to participate. In fact, a relaxed and at the same time well integrate class, in which students respect one another’s opinions and work well together as a team is of a paramount importance to me. I always differentiate in my classes and assess my students in each activity; I am able to anticipate specific and individual problems. I plan my lessons accurately, with lesson plans and schemes of work. I always try to create lessons that are enjoyable and stimulating. I am professional and I always try to strike the right balance between teacher and student talk, but, generally, my classes are “student centred”.

Italian Teacher in the City of London

Name of the teacher: Barbara

In my career as a teacher I have experienced each and every segment of the work starting from planning to assessing the course outcomes. What is so appealing to me about this job is that one works with but above all for people, getting to know their ways of learning, of interacting and of evolving, but at the same time it helps one get to know him/herself better as well, comparing themselves with one’s own strengths and weaknesses.

As a teacher, I have always tried to present contents with different methods (visual and auditive especially at a basic level, situation-oriented, interactive-communicative, at upper ones), but I have also taken into consideration the importance of meta-cognitive strategies, peer-tutoring, cooperative learning, which are pivotal to set the best and most varied approaches and learning strategies during a lesson in a classroom and outside.

Using authentic materials, taken from different sources (books, newspapers, magazines, blogs, internet, etc…) is a must and always positively affects learners’ interest and involvement. Another key-word is supporting the autonomy of students, scaffolding and encouraging them to achieve their learning goals; to do that it is very important to augment students’ talking time and reduce teacher’s talking time, by presenting activities, games and exercises which allow them to practise the language, knowing that the
teacher is anyway there ready to help.

I am conscious that many obstacles can prevent a very good learning process from taking place, like peer-pressure and other psychological obstacle to acquisition, so I try to create a positive, cheerful, very
involving class-setting, where anybody can feel at ease and take part into lesson activities. Teaching and learning is a complex, delicate process that only takes place when it is based on a good interaction among partakers and when the atmosphere positively stimulates them to get involved.

Learners need to trust their “guide” and feel they can express themselves, so I would tend to accept their participation and give the appropriate feedback, supporting and giving some advice if needed to further improve their skills and inform them about their progression routes.

I am keen on studying and widening my teaching skills so I regularly attend courses to widen my competences and keep me updated. As you can see from my resumé, I graduated in 2006 with a Master Degree in Modern Foreign Languages and Literatures; last year I completed a Post-Graduate Teacher Training during which I had the chance to work as Teaching Assistant side by side to Mrs Salzano, an MFL teacher in charge of supervising and observing my training.

Here in London, I attended a course about Behaviour Management in challenging classroom and I am in possess of the Enhanced CRB required to work with pupils.
Among the other certifications I took a Certificate of Proficiency in English, the “Teaching Knowledge Test – Module 3 and “Teaching Knowledge Test – Clil” at the ESOL Cambridge University Local Examiner and School, “The British School” where I was given the chance to be part of the team as an English teacher for young learners and as an invigilator during ESOL exams.

Concerning my experience, I started working as a teacher and tutor for a local association, GIOSEF -Italy, planning, delivering and assessing lessons for University students visiting our country and attending EUProgrammes,
like Leonardo and/or Erasmus. Meanwhile I started cooperating for “The British School” as an MFL teacher and invigilator. Then, I was hired by a Primary School as an English teacher and after 3 years I was called from a State Secondary School in a near city to teach German language and civilization. At the end of 2013 I had also the chance to be hired as a Commissioner for Final State Exams (High School Diploma).

Regarding the books, I tend to create a mix between some online sources, bespoke exercise and activities, and some books, like “Espresso”, “Noi”, “Italian Grammar Drills”, but I am always open to students’ input and so to sort fo create a “new formula” each time.

Teaching and learning is a complex, delicate process that only takes place when it is based on a good interaction among partakers and when the atmosphere positively stimulates them to get involved. This is the reason why I always try to create a positive, cheerful, very engaging class-setting, where anybody can feel at ease and take part into lesson activities. The approach I tend to implement is the meta-cognitive where the learner is encouraged and actively engaged to explore and gaining self-awareness about his cognitive processes, thus developing autonomy of thoughts, independent judgement and recognition of their limits, abilities and chances. I have been working in the educational field for more than 15 years and I still think this is a challenging but very rewarding and enriching profession, and I really wish to put all my knowledge, skills and heart to good use to prove myself an efficient teacher.

Italian Teacher/Tutor in London

Teacher name: Alessandra

The best thing about teaching is the opportunity to create human contacts with your students, which act like bridges to convey notions and information about the language they wish to study. I reach my goals as a teacher when I manage to build these connections by respecting the students’ needs and personalities, and I can see significant results in their language skills. A teacher must be able to make students love the language they learn: this is the fundamental rule of my teaching style. Of course, strong knowledge and competence of the teacher are indispensable to reach this result.
I have had many experiences as a teacher so far, and what I discovered is that you have the chance to build the right connection with every kind of person you meet. The teacher must have the ability to recognize the best approach to be used with each of them; in order to do this, I think the best way could be having a preparatory meeting with the student. Through this, the teacher has the possibility to settle a proper linguistic and grammar plan based on the student’s needs and wishes. And s/he can speak with him/her, in order to establish a relationship founded on mutual trust and respect. Students must have the impression that the teacher is giving his/her best effort to make them improve their language. As well, the teacher must have the ability to make language interesting and keep boredom away from the lessons. Language is a living thing, and so the perfect lessons should be.

I believe to own quite a good intuition. This allows me to build the connection with my students, which I have written about so far. In my years of experience as a teacher, and of course through my entire studies I acquired the “technical” preparation which is primary for a good learning. I studied how to teach Italian to foreign students, I developed by myself a project in which I taught Italian to foreigners by visiting a museum in Bologna; I have studied English since my middle school days until now, and I still dedicate to it with passion and creativity. I like talking with my students, find out much about them. This empathy, my experience and the studies I have done make me confident in teaching.

Italian teacher in West London

teacher2

Teacher name: Katrine

I taught Italian Language, Literature and History at university and high school students.

As a university tutor, I helped students during their thesis preparation, I checked grammar and syntax mistakes in the projects and did useful research. In my opinion, one good method to learn is the self-learning: I showed my students their mistakes and brought them to understand what they did wrong, so they would not repeat the same error again. I also gave assistance and support to students.
As a Teacher, I taught Italian, History and Literature, I gave assistance and support in the learning process. I achieved abilities in communicating with the students and in teaching them how to learn the language:
– First of all, at the beginning, I think it is useful to explain the official rules of the grammar.
I believe grammar is an important component of any language. For example, without grammar one cannot understand the time of action, whether it is past or present, idioms and the correct construction of a sentence.
In my opinion, the simplest way to understand the grammar of the language, rather than just studying grammar rules, is to read any Italian book or newspaper. So, I am used to pushing my students to read as much as they can and, possibly, loudly (in this way, it is easier for them to acquire a good vocabulary too).
– Secondly, I often open free debates about different topics (the students can speak in Italian about anything they feel like) and, at the same time, I address them to use the language correctly, as the spoken language has to be understood. This will bring my students to use a correct pronunciation and expose their ideas clearly.
– Thirdly, listening! A good method to learn Italian is watching Italian movies, news, shows and getting in touch with Italian people. These methods allow to understand not only the language but also the Italian culture and “behaviour”, that is why I like to motivate my students to watch Italian TV and get connected with natives.
Furthermore, another important aspect to improve Italian language is the atmosphere!
The atmosphere should be quite, informal and cheerful and I encourage my students to talk on any topic and problem.

During my experience, I dealt with people who came from different country and, thanks to them, I learnt how each and every one had different culture and way of seeing the world. I think that the best way to be a great teacher is to keep an open mind and understand students’ difficulties while learning, by helping them to overcome their problems and fears. I explain in a clear and direct way by always keeping an eye on the tougher topics, trying to illustrate them in different ways to make all students understand them. In addition, I gained high-quality teaching skills during my Degree and PhD studies and I am sure I can awaken my students’ interest in learning more. Furthermore, I know how to handle my class well by opening debates and arousing important doubts related to the subject.

Languages Teacher in London

teacher2

Teacher name: MARIA

In the past 5 years I’ve been working a lot in private tuition of several pupils, aged from 10 to 18, teaching them various subjects but especially languages (English, Spanish and French). I’m Italian mothertongue and I’ve just graduated in Chinese, so I would love to teach all these languages. Throughout my academic career I’ve met some amazing languages teachers who made me love learning foreign languages as much as the relative cultures. That’s why I would love to transmit the same passion to my tutees, always finidng some new approches to stimulate them according to their characters.

I’m young, cheerful and smily, and according to my experience with teachers that always helps! I’m prepared aswell though, because as I said, learning and later on teaching languages have always been part of my life.
