I am a great teacher because I am a languages lover myself. I am mother tongue Italian and I love my language and literature. That’s why I try to teach it in the best way I can: I want it to be treated with the respect it deserves. I am also fluent in Portuguese, having studied foreign languages at University. At the moment I am taking Russian classes. I think knowing more languages helps me teaching better because I know how my students’ languages work. Moreover, I am a cheerful person who loves to talk and know new people, which makes me love every single student who crosses my path. I am precise and patient and seeing students learning is my big reward.

My first experience as an Italian teacher for foreigners was during the DITALS (certificate for teaching Italian to foreigners) course, as we had to practice what we learnt during classes. Afterwards I started a cooperation with a local language school as well as with my neighbourhood kinder garden and primary school, where I organised free Italian courses for foreign students’ parents. I use what we call Humanistic method, starting from everyday life dialogues, newsapaper’s articles and student’s experiences. From these, I get to the rules that regulate my language. I normally use books and photocopies that the school management prepares after my suggestion and sometimes I collect material from the Internet. I can teach both to adults and to children, having taken the corresponding DITALS certification. With children I always start from everyday life and never insist on rules. I let the children understand the rule by practicing the language or just present rules as games. When teaching to adults I make a difference between those who decided to study Italian for pleasure and those who have to, which are almost always immigrants. With the latter, I concentrate most on giving them the instruments to communicate in the most independent way, after that, I expand the contents of my lessons.

I am patient and I truly enjoy exchanging opinions with my tutee. I think it offers a great possibility of personal growth other than cultural. Also, I taught myself english just by watching movies and listening to music, so I think I know the most effective ways to make a subject interesting and stimulating, by integrating it into the daily life.

Ever since I was in middle school, I loved to tutor and help friends and family with school homework. At first, I did it for free, just because they asked me to but then, as the word spread, more and more people asked me to help them with different subjects and so what started as a simple favors exchanging became a sort of part-time job. I especially tutored in humanistic subjects (italian, philosophy and history) and languages (English and French).
As I am really young and some of the people I helped were around my age or slightly younger, I tend to use a more relaxed approach and like to see my ‘students’ more as my pairs than actual students.
I liked to interest them bringing new life to what they considered boring or difficult subjects and used any possible mean (tv-series, music, books, news) to stimulate their curiosity and keep them motivated to keep practicing on their own time.
A girl I used to help with English, is now a tv-series lover and watch them in the original language with subtitles as I used to do when I was learning English; she gets amazing grades and gets more fluent day by day.
But, most importantly, she enjoys doing it.

French and Mexican Spanish Teacher in London

Teacher name: Marie

I recently came back from four years spent in Mexico where I studied to become a French teacher and was working as one at the same time. I developed a broad experience in this area and learned to organise my classes in the private sector as well as in the public one, to teach to a group as well as individuals, and to have students from all levels.

I have given French classes to students from level A to C, in classes and through Skype. I worked for a language school (Klap&Co) where the professors had to organize alone its classes and, at the end of each months, we had to send a repport to the school with the themes we had taught in classes. Also, we had to reflect on the weakness and strength of each student so as to adapt our class to them and to the way they learn the language.
At the same time, I studied at the Autonomous University of Mexico to be a French teacher foreign language (FLE). I learned to work individually as well as in a team.
Before my four years in Mexico, I studied a Master in Brussels, my native place, in English and Spanish Language and Literature. I have always been interested in the culture of theses languages as well as in the culture of my own language. This point is an advantage for me and the way I teach French in class because I always introduce various points of the French culture (from France, Belgium, Switzerland, Canada, etc) in my class. In fact, the culture is part of the language and identity, that is why it is so important to give the same importance to culture than to the language itself.
After four years in Mexico, I master Spanish as a second language. I am half Belgian half Mexican and I can say it is a cultural wealth. With my experience in French teaching, my studies to be a French teacher and my years spent in Mexico, I am certain I can teach this second language as well as French. That is the reason why I would like to apply on your language school as a French and Spanish teacher.

My teaching experience, my openness to new cultures and my facility to adapt to new surroundings taught me to teach with passion, patience and dynamism. I am convinced that those skills would allow me to be a suitable teacher in a dynamic school like yours. I am rigorous in my work, good at prioritising and like to plan it in advance. I for instance demonstrated this ability while I was working as a French teacher at Klap&Co, a Mexican language school, where I organised many individual and group class for different levels for a same day. Besides working individually, I also enjoy working in team.

Qualified Italian Teacher in London

Name of the teacher: Martina

I’m a qualified Italian Teacher and I have recently completed my teacher training at the Italian Cultural Institute in London.
I’ve always been interested in other cultures, languages and countries that’s the reason why I have decided to take my graduation in Linguistic and Cultural Mediation, studying French, English and Arabic.
I think that my enthusiasm in teaching Italian comes from the love for my country and the need to spread the main sides of our beautiful culture to people from different part of the world.
The student during each lesson has to be actively involved in the process of learning through the use of authentic sources like songs, audio, video, games, etc.. in order to enjoy himself while learning.

I’ve always had the idea that each student has to feel confident during the learning process and one of the most important things that a teacher has to do is to build with his students a sort of friendship in which they are not afraid to ask or make mistakes, they have to relax and don’t feel any kind of pressure.

Learn Italian One to One With a Private Tutor

There are several reasons to learn Italian. As a popular romance language, Italian is spoken by nearly 125 million people worldwide. Suffice to say, this language is just as important as English, French, German, and especially Mandarin Chinese. This is especially true in the world of global business, where learning a second language is now considered mandatory. Based on recent reports, the UK is rapidly becoming one of the world’s largest melting pots. With a wide array of cultures and languages, learning Italian is another way for British youth and businesses to break down communication barriers with new arrivals from the old country.

Britain to Learn Italian to improve communication.

At the same time, learning the Italian language can unite neighborhoods across England and establish a true sense of multiculturalism. With a lack of language skills in UK, the Prime Minister has stressed the need for Britons to adopt and learn new languages. Along with breaking down communication obstacles, learning Italian helps non-speakers learn more about Italy’s fascinating culture and traditions. This includes their world renowned cuisine, along with music and other essential traits. From London to Manchester, there are several native speaking Italians across the nation. The ability to learn their language can also help propel business opportunities and careers. This is especially true for students that want to establish their own commercial entities within domestic or international capacities.

What to do to learn Italian in London.

If you want to learn Italian, your options and choices are simply unlimited. In fact, there are several schools within London and other cities that teach this popular language. If working for an international firm that deals with Italian partners and clients, chances are they will pay for you to learn the language. By learning this fascinating language, you will be able to effectively engage and communicate with your Italian customers. If pressed for time, however, there are online and physical tutors available for your convenience. Whether for business or personal fulfillment, learning the Italian language offers a myriad of opportunities for UK businesses and students.

Higher Education Establishments Move Toward Abandoning Language Studies

A recent article written by the Guardian newspaper states that over a third of UK universities have stopped offering specialist European language courses, demonstrating a shocking lack of interest in studying a foreign tongue.

Some argue it is a lack of funding into linguistics courses that has led to this immense drop in participation whilst others debate whether it is the harsh grading at A-level that has turned students off the idea of taking a higher learning language course. We look at some potential reasons language learning may be decreasing in popularity, and discuss why why we believe there should be a resurgence in students wanting to learn one!

Modern Technology

There may other influences responsible for the drop in applications to study languages but modern technology offering computer-aided translating services at your fingertips is certainly one. It may seem as though communication with people all over the world has become a limitless possibility, and indeed these services have helped, but it has been argued before that online translation programs are not as reliable as everyone believes. The idea of communication is one not just supported by the words themselves, but the intention with which they are spoken and often learning a language from scratch is a much easier way of understanding not just how to speak it, but how to understand the culture from which the language originates.

Image of China with Chinese FlagDecreasing Popularity and Investment

European languages are becoming known as ‘elite subjects’, i.e., a subject being offered by very few universities and therefore only studied by a small demographic of students who have decided it will be beneficial in a particular job role. It seems as though, because the demand for these courses has dwindled and as such the number of universities offering these courses has also lowered, there seems to be no way of changing this trend. There must be many valid reasons as to why students do not feel like taking up university courses in languages such as German, Spanish and Italian but perhaps there should be more of an effort made by educational services to demonstrate the benefits of taking up a new language at degree level.

Language Benefits Business

Perhaps prospective university students these days are turning away from learning languages simply because they do not see it as a necessary string to their bow. However, with the rise of global communication comes a huge rise in global commerce. Businesses are trading internationally now more than ever so being multi-lingual is a massive plus if you are thinking of working abroad. It is not just future employment prospects that improve from learning a new language, the opportunities for personal growth are significant too. If you have the desire to travel the globe during your gap year, then surely knowing some of the local tongues will help you immerse yourself in the destinations you have chosen to travel.

Learning a language helps to understand other people and cultures and can help breed a deeper understanding of the world you live in. Being able to translate the odd sentence with Google Translate when you need to is a helpful tool but being able to speak in depth to someone in their own language is a skill we believe to be far more meaningful.

Languages are tough to learn but can be so rewarding when it all clicks into place. Lucy recently enrolled in a Spanish course with LanguageNow and is loving the experience.

 History and culinary tradition

The old town is amazingly well preserved. Traces of all the people conquering and ruling the area are present: from Romans to Austrians passing by Goths or Lombards. But above all, the proud of Bologna is its university, founded in 1088. Nowadays a great part of the activity of the town is linked to student’s life.

Gastronomy in Emilia Romagna, the region of which it is the capital, is one of the most important in Italy. It is not in vain that another nickname for the town is la grassa (the fat one). Bolognese sauce, prepared with meat and tomato is a must with many pasta dishes. Prosciutto (ham) and mortadella are the basis for many appetizers to be tasted with Lambrusco or Pignoletto wines.

 Museums, restaurants and nightlife

Do not miss the Medieval Museum with incredible manuscripts, sculptures and Islamic art. In search of paintings the option is the National Picture Gallery, exposing Emilian and Venetian works by Tiziano and Giotto among other important artists. Most probably the University Museums are the most important ones related to science: Carducci Room, la Specola (the Astronomical Observatory) or the Museum of Natural History are some of them.

As it corresponds to a city where culinary tradition is so significant, there are lots of restaurants. Enoteca Italiana, twice chosen as the very best in Italy, Diana with its excellent tortellini in brodo and Garganelli are among the very best in Bologna. In Via del Pratello are located popular bars and restaurants for young people or students.

And once the visitor is full of energy again, nightlife awaits. Via Zamboni, near the university, is full of pubs and clubs. Al Piccolo in Piazza Verdi is a famous place with a DJ. If you prefer something more alternative, search in Via Pratello. Mutanye might be the right place.

Learn Italian through cooking: fresh egg pasta

Italian cooking lessons are held in the many Bologna’s cooking school in Via Augusto Righi. It is taught how to prepare fresh egg pasta. You just need to mix 100g of wheat flour and one egg per person. Knead with your hands until the aspect is smooth and homogeneous. Use the pasta machine to give it the shape you wish. Cook it in boiling water and dress it with Bolognese sauce.

Bologna is the ideal place to learn Italian as it is a medium size city without the disadvantages of places like Milano or Roma. History, art and culture join together with gastronomy, industry and science. Student from everywhere meet at the university and give place to an exciting nightlife. What else can be asked to learn a new language?
