Giulio Italian Teacher in London

teacher2

I currently work as Visiting Lecturer in Italian at Regent’s University London. I have had over seven wide-ranging and successful years of pedagogical experience in British higher education and have always been enthusiastic, innovative and creative in my approach to language and culture teaching. My priorities have been to ensure a high-quality and distinctive student experience as well as looking after learners’ well-being and satisfaction. From 2005 to 2012, I had the chance to experience the thriving and highly collegial departments in three different universities (Sheffield Hallam, Manchester, and Birmingham) and that has inspired me to make language and culture teaching one of my long-term ambitions. I have also developed a strong research interest in learners’ affective factors and the ways in which technology could facilitate both distance and on-site learning. I have soon translated this interest into committed practice and have made a name for myself in effectively using the most advanced technologies in teaching. Being committed to interdisciplinarity, I was actively involved in numerous projects and cultural activities both within the departments and elsewhere in the university. These included collaborating in the promotion of Italian in secondary schools of the Greater Manchester Area, setting up outreach activities for the LEAP-University Language Centre by delivering a series of taster classes in Italian during Visit/Open Days at The University of Manchester, and co-ordinating a series of film nights for our students at the University of Birmingham. I work well in a team and am equally happy leading or following instructions, while always contributing original ideas.

Probably the best evidence of my skills is given by the website linked below, belonging to my previous institute: I wrote each content. (select English Language, then general activities > Language courses). About teaching, for me it is a semi-creative process that involves interaction with the class. Since communication in a given context is what gives a meaning to a language, I tend to promote learning by stimulating each of the four language-connected skills (speaking, writing, listening, reading) through experimentation. As psychologist, am very good at assessing students’ needs and expectations, adapting the program and my stile to their characteristics, as well about assessing the efficacy of learning processes. In addition, I am quite a decent drawer, able to quickly draw sketches of people and situations to provide students with visual supports that fit the taught topic. Even more, I love to alternate serious and formal moments with humour, because it helps students to better enjoy lessons, it keeps up the curve of attention and helps long-therm memory.

I am a native and CLTA qualified Italian teacher with two years of experience in both one to one and small group lessons in London. I am currently one of the Italian teacher at Happy Languages Ltd. school where I run classes at all levels up to 14 students per class. Recently, I also followed a didactics research based on the collaborative learning .
I am graduated in History of Art in Italy and I am now attending an on line Master course in teaching Italian language and culture to foreigners (ITALS) with the University of Venice to keep my skills and knowledges constantly updated.
I really enjoy all my classes because I can see how students improve their communication skills and I can say they respond well to my methods.
My teaching style is based on the Communicative Approach and focused on student’s needs. My lessons cover grammar and also cultural aspects because I am convinced that to learn a language you should also understand the real life of that country. That is why my lessons are mostly based on games and communication activities that create a good atmosphere among students and teacher and never make you bored!
I well know that learning a language might be hard and sometimes takes long time, that’s why I am very patient and I proceed gradually, I always make sure my students understand before go through a new topic.
I am very enthusiastic and passionate about my profession and my aim is to give my students a great learning experience.

Marie Rose French and Spanish teacher in the City of London

teacher2

Hello, my name is Marie, I am Belgian and Mexican and just arrived in London.
My previous experience in teaching was in Mexico where I studied to be a French teacher and worked 9 months as one. I gave class to adults and children, to individuals and to groups of all levels. Here in London, I have started to give some particular classes.
I have little experience in teaching Spanish but, as it is my second language and with my teaching experience of French, I believe I am totally able to teach it too.
I am rigorous in my work, good at prioritising and like to plan it in advance. I for instance demonstrated this ability while I was working as a French teacher at Klap&Co, a Mexican language school, where I organised many individual and group class for different levels for a same day. Besides working individually, I also enjoy working in team.
I try to make the lesson atractive beause it is the only way to motivate the student to learn a new language. I try to make them play with the language and make funny lessons. I make a lot of dialogues, I try to make the students speak the more they can and always introduce a bit of culture in the lesson. Also, it is important to adapt to the students and to adapt one’s own class to them and with the way they learn. I also like to have a feedback from my students to know what they would like to change or which points they would like. Likewise, it is important to make meetings with the other teachers of the school and the director to speak about what can be improved.

Nadia Italian Teacher – Central London

teacher2

I am an Italian Teacher, with a long track record of tutoring (I started in 2004), taking responsibility for the progress of students, as well as planning, preparing and presenting lessons that cater for the needs. I have experience in teaching both as one-to-one tuitions and classroom lessons.
First of all I need to know what is the student’s aim. Not everyone is interested in a deep knowledge of the grmmar; someone could be interested only in conversation, or in the culture, or in a specific issue. And then I can discuss with the student the best way to reach the goal and plan the lessons on consequence: I can easly adapt my teaching method according to students’ needs and difficulties, in order to find the best solution. I can use the traditional course books, integrated with other tools, according to needs and preferences: newspapers, classic works, movies, songs, recipes, and whatever you want.
I am patient, calm, dynamic and passionate in what I do: I like my language and I am very happy when someone can communicate with my in Italian. That’s why I always try to use Italian as much as I can, during the lessons (I can also provide an English translation, if necessary).
My education is a good way to see how deep is my knowledge of the Italian Language: I am Postgraduate with First Class Honour in Italian Language and Literature and at the moment I am a PhD student in Italian, with some pubblications.

Ilaria – Italian Native Teacher qualified and experienced

Teacher name: Ilaria

From October 1st 2013 to May 30th 2014 I taught Italian for foreigners, basic/intermediate English, basic Spanish to adults in a cultural association. It was my first experience in managing three language courses all by myself. The classes were small (mini groups: 2-5 people, sometimes one person) and the students were for the most part adults with different needs, abilities and background. I learnt to deal with their different needs and I realized how it is important putting oneself on the line, sharing experience and learning to learn. It was really satisfying putting a smile upon their faces each lesson, and also becoming someone they could rely on.

From February 17th to 28th 2014 I attended an internship in Italian language classes for foreigners. It was an amazing experience. The mini group (4 young students and a woman who came from all over the world: India, Iceland, Spain, Brazil, and USA) offered me the possibility to focus the attention on each person. Even if I was advised against speaking in other language than Italian when the foreign students did not understand something, I learnt how it is important to know other languages besides our mother tongue. First of all, if you try to learn a new language, then, when you’re going to teach your, you understand in first person fears and difficulties of students; moreover, you can quickly help to solve problems, especially when the language of the students is close to the language to learn.

For two months (June – July 2014) I had the possibility to teach basic Italian to African and Asian immigrants. After a basic course for teachers, and the exam for Didactic of Italian as second language, I felt more self-confident and more aware of my role as teacher.

I have experience of a number of years of teaching students through private lessons. Since I’ve arrived here in London (August 2014), I keep on teaching my mother tongue through private lessons.

My teaching style is authentic and communicative. I experienced myself how enjoyable, relaxing, interesting and quick for anyone learning through the use of lively, and up-to-date materials: songs, books, magazines, newspapers, films, etc., which make learning more fun and authentic. I like creating a positive and peaceful learning environment where I can improve the main four language skills of students.

Experienced Spanish, and Portuguese Teacher

I am used with the communicative language teaching. I teach through audiolingual method many times, I believe that if we mix both methods we can achieve our goal of good language acquisition by making students interact and communicate like if they were in a real context of communication, for instance, a job interview, lecture, or a simple dialog.
It is important that we use authentic material and pay attention to students probable mistakes.
If theachers make sure students are learning, s/he can elaborate a conversation based on recent news.
Being a good teacher can be the most rewarding and exciting job in the world, however it demands broad knowledge of subject matter, curriculum, and standards; enthusiasm, a caring attitude, and a love of learning; knowledge of discipline and classroom management techniques.
In order to be a good teacher we have to practice day by day not forgetting to have lesson plans that give students a clear idea of what they will be learning, what the assignments are and what the grading policy is. Assignments have learning goals and give students ample opportunity to practice new skills. The teacher is consistent in grading and returns work in a timely manner.
Effective teachers use facts as a starting point, not an end point; we ask “why” questions, look at all sides and encourage students to predict what will happen next. We ask questions frequently to make sure students are following along. They try to engage the whole class, and we don’t allow a few students to dominate the class. We keep students motivated with varied, lively approaches and we are always highly accessible.

Qualified Spanish Teacher/Tutor in North London

Teacher name: Natalia

I am a Qualified Spanish Teacher. I had my first experience teaching in a secondary School in Spain few years ago. Since I came to London, two years ago, I have been working as a Spanish Preschool Teacher for pupils aged 3-4 years old. It has been a great experience in my teaching career! Nowadays I am working as a Spanish Tutor to adults, doing one to one lessons for students of all levels of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (A1-C1). I hold the Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) and a Bachelor’s Degree in Communication and I am currently studying the Graduate Certificate in Spanish Language Teaching to Adults (GCSLTA) at The Instituto Cervantes of London.

As a teacher, I am supportive of the Communicative Approach, based on the idea that learning a language successfully involves that learners practice to communicate in real situations where they can develop their natural communication skills and strategies to acquire the target language. As part of my teaching style, I also believe in the importance of teaching grammar and lexis inductively to make the students deduce, through examples, the grammar rules and words meanings. In that way students can think and realise by themselves, they are able to build their own strategies and, consequently, the learning process will be more effective. I spite of supporting one method or another, I think the best teaching practice consists in meeting the students’ needs and interests, that is why I am really sensitive with the preferences of the students regarding to the lessons and I am flexible and adapt my methodology to the characteristics of each group.

What makes you a good teacher?

I am passionate about teaching Spanish to pupils of all ages and I always bring my enthusiasm and creative ideas into the classroom in order to keep the students motivated at all times. I possess excellent organization and communication skills and I am responsible, reliable, friendly and approachable person. I like to prepare carefully my lessons and adapt my methodology to the characteristics and preferences of the students. I am enthusiastic and energetic and I enjoy learning new procedures and looking for new and original resources to use in my lessons. From my professional experience working both as a Spanish Tutor and as a Preschool Spanish Teacher, I have always received positive feedbacks from managers, colleagues, parents and students for my commitment and excellent job performance.

Nowdays, I teach a student Spanish.

About my teaching style:
I adapt to suit every students individual need because each student is different and I think that the key is that in order to get a good results in the class and to take advantage of them. I teach to get the basis of the language, because when a student has the basis is easier to learn the language. I teach in a easy way, being patient, repeating the times that are needed. But, also, if the students want the class to be quickly, the class is more quickly. I love to teach and I think that when you do something that you love the results always are good.

What makes you a good teacher:

Mainly, it makes a great teacher my clear vocation as a teacher (I want to be a Spanish teacher) and the way that I explain the things, changing the difficult things for easy things and explaining in different ways and with different examples. Also, my 10 years of experience teaching differente subjects tutoring both children, teenagers and adults provides me a long and a polyvalent experience as a teacher. I can teach many subjects to many different people, and I think that it means that I am really a great teacher because I adapt to suit every students individual needs.
